Stinkee Candle
The first step in the process was to decide on a flavor. I chose dirty laundry as my unwanted scent, and created the name "Laundry Bag." Three separate photos were combined using Photoshop to create one realistic scene for the label. Using a background picture of an empty room, two pictures of baskets of clothes, and various filters and layer effects, I created the images that would represent my scent.
|
Next, the Photoshop document was flattened and moved to a provided template of a real Yankee Candle label. Using the font Palatino, I entered my flavor into the white area, and provided a small ingredient guarantee, in the font Helvetica, in the gold area underneath. The slogan "America's Most Loved Candle" was altered to "America's Least Loved Candle," reinforcing the parody. The image was saved as a PNG file to be used in Illustrator on the jar.
|
Meanwhile, in Illustrator, I traced just one side of a Yankee Candle Jar in order to create a path,. I rendered the path through the 3D Revolve Effect to make the shape of the plain jar and changed it to the color that the wax would be. Using the symbols palette, I imported the PNG of the label and positioned it on the jar through the appearance palette to make it wrap around. The file was then saved as a Photoshop document for further editing.

The created candle was moved over to a provided Photoshop document of a white Yankee Candle with no label. Positioning the colored candle on top, the eraser tool was used to get rid of the top of the jar at 100% opacity and 100% flow, in order to reveal the clear glass of the layer underneath. The rest of the candle was erased at varying opacities and flows under 100%, with a large soft brush, to make it seem as though the candle is under glass.

And all of that left me with the finished product: A Stinkee Candle in the flavor "Laundry Bag."
